It’s Tough out There Update – Managers More Aggressive at Conference reports Reuters

Whether by choice or by the lack thereof, hedge fund managers are attending events to market their funds directly. They are getting in the game and focusing on this core business function only to find it more competitive then ever.

FT.com / UK – Hedge fund industry climbs its ’slope of enlightenment’.

I have been talking about the evolution of the industry for some time.

I have pulled out the last 4 paragraphs. Excellent summary of the state of the industry and the path forward.

From 2002 until late 2007, a growing wave of [...]

Get Ready to Update the Database…Again

As if everyone’s database wasn’t already in tatters.  Today comes news of the expected consolidation wave that will roll-up the Swiss FOF industry.

In an article in Hedgeworld/Reuters, Martin de Sa’Pinto commented that the “you can get there from here” nature of the compensation structure will compell FOFs into one another’s arms.

“Many of Switzerland’s smaller fund [...]

Intel from the trenches – It’s tough out there!

Some good, if not surprising, news from Pension Funds.
Picked up this green shoot from Hedgeworld yesterday.
Asset/Liabilities are all out of whack …disturbingly so, in fact…plans have to generate returns.
What this article doesn’t state is that the large institutional investors will likely continue to invest through fund of funds or the largest HFs.

Ebay for Hedge Fund Interests

I have been a flurry of press commentary on the accelerated development of the secondary market for hedge fund interests. Since we started Hedge Connection, this has been a sleepy subdivision in Hedge Fund land with HedgeBay driving most of the interest and attention. However, the neighborhood is certainly changing with new entrants – from start-ups to [...]
